On Sunday Afternoon some of our ladies took on the Thrapston Tournament.
The Ladies Management Team of Phil Toon and Coach Mark Draper decided this would be a good test for some of our youngsters to go up against some of the best opposition from our leagues and also get to grips with the physical demands of playing ladies football to youth football. Also without our No1 keeper the Ladies took it in turns to go in goal.
Our youngsters started very well winning their first game and drawing their second and then narrowly missing out on a win in their 3rd where Brackley scored an equaliser in the dying moments. The youngsters were in 3rd position in the group and to a certain extent cruising after playing the top teams already and matching them.
However after a little break in play this killed the momentum and with the heat and then lunch for some it zapped the energy and they were unlucky to then get beat 1-0 in the final minute by Thrapston. This meant our youngsters needed at least a win in our final 2 games to go through to the finals. But the next game they drew against Long Buckby and needing a win in their last they unfortunately ran out of steam and we ended up bowing out at the group stages.
Considering the personnel and the step up required for many everyone did themselves proud.
Heavy lunches are certainly something to learn from and considering no usual keeper today to only concede 4 goals all tournament shows how well they played at times. Also the top teams that went through our youngsters either beat or drew with so this really shows how competitive they actually were before that break. Very unlucky from all the girls and this will stand them in good stead for the coming season.
